We look for new locations, new perspectives. The art of photography is often defined by the ability to see the world in a unique way. Finding new perspectives and locations is a constant challenge and a rewarding pursuit for those who love to capture the world around them.
Travel. Around the world. Move on. To the next location, the next exotic holiday. But what if we don’t? What if we stand still. For more than one day. More than a few days. What about a few weeks?
Consider the role of location in photography. A familiar scene can take on a completely different meaning when viewed from a new vantage point. For example, a city skyline can be transformed from a common sight to a breathtaking masterpiece by capturing it from a rooftop or a nearby park. Or an exotic holiday location can become much more appealing if we take extended time to understand and examine the beauty.
This collection of images are all from the same beach in Kao Lak, Thailand. Its the same beach that took the main hit from the tsunami in 2004 on Boxing Day. I walked along the beach for two weeks and soaked up the sun, the sand and the beauty of the same place, relaxed and these are the result of not rushing to the next location and looking for the next place of beauty. But rather standing still and looking at the same beauty that was already around me.
